Yahoo refused to buy Google for $1 million in 1998 and currently Google’s parent Alphabet is the fourth largest tech company with a market value above $1.6 trillion and Yahoo is becoming another Nokia. Google acquired YouTube in November 2006 for just as much as $1.65 billion and currently the estimated value of YouTube is $170 billion. Timing of Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) is the key in creating value for the shareholders.

However, the top 5 technology giants namely Facebook, Google, Amazon, Apple and Microsoft are being criticized for mergers, acquisitions and potential anticompetitive behavior. They are just too big and powerful.
